Information Technology
An Information Technology degree provides students with a strong foundation in programming, problem analysis, problem-solving, and software engineering significantly supplemented with practical experience using hardware and software resources available in contemporary computer laboratories maintained by the Department.
In many ways, information technology is a primary driver of innovation. Not only does innovation help drive business growth but it encompasses so much of our everyday lives. From banking to education, information technology is pervasive and will only continue to grow.
Information Technology students also have the opportunity to select one of three concentrations: Applied Information Technology Concentration, Computer Networking Concentration, and Health Information Technology Concentration.
Our graduates are prepared for roles such as web developer, information security analyst, software developer, IT project manager, and Database Administrator.
The Computer Science program is ABET-accredited. All classes incorporate service- and project-based learning, and faculty members engage students in hands-on research projects.
As the university with the lowest cost of attendance of all public, state institutions in Alabama, Athens State provides you the best value for your investment.
“After hearing about cybersecurity as a career, I thought to myself that this must be fate because everything instantly resonated with me. I also learned how there is a lack of women in the cybersecurity field, which motivated me even further to pursue cybersecurity as a career.”
