Athens State University will be hosting the 99th Annual Meeting of the Alabama Academy of Science from March 16-18, 2022. Members from the Alabama Academy of Science (AAS), Alabama Junior Academy of Science (AJAS), and Gorgas will be in attendance. Dr. Jan Davis, retired aerospace professional with experience as an astronaut, engineer, and senior manager, will speak at the conference’s banquet, and Dr. Richard M. Myers, PhD,President and Science Director of HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, will serve as the AJAS Speaker.
Beginning on March 16, members of the AAS will present papers and posters from the following categories: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, Engineering and Computer Science, Social Sciences, Anthropology, STEM Education, Environmental and Earth Science, Health Sciences, and Bioethics & History & Philosophy of Science.
The Student Paper and Poster Competition for members of AJAS will be held from March 17-18. Winners will be announced at the conference’s banquet for each section, and cash awards will be distributed.
In addition, the Gorgas Scholarship Competition will take place on March 18. Entrants will present a scientific paper describing a project or original research. Gorgas Scholars are high school seniors only, and entrants will compete for over $10,000 in scholarships.
