About Athens State TEACH
The Athens State TEACH program provides a path to obtaining a secondary (grades 6-12) teacher certification while earning a STEM (Biology, Chemistry, or Mathematics) bachelor’s degree. The program gives students the opportunity to pursue two career paths, one in their STEM field, and one in education. We offer teacher candidates recruitment and retention scholarships, intensive field experiences, and personal guidance from Master Teachers. The teacher candidates develop transferable skills, have more career options, and have the opportunity to positively impact their community.
The program allows teacher candidates to explore science or math teaching in local schools early in their STEM program through an Inquiry-Based Teaching and Lesson design course. This course is available at Athens State University as a combination course, ASTE 303. Students are also able to complete this as a two-part course at Calhoun Community College as EDU 101 and EDU 102.

Building a Community of Educators
Our Teacher Candidates work side-by-side with other future educators in their field of study. They build relationships within this like-minded community that they carry with them into their careers.

Guidance from Master Teachers
Athens State Professors and Master Teachers demonstrate hands-on lessons, so Teacher Candidates can gain experience about how to model their expectations and deliver content in an engaging manner to their future students.
