We understand that military-affiliated students face unique life circumstances like reassignment and deployment. That’s why we offer numerous courses and entire programs online, along with generous aid packages. Please find additional information below about Active Duty Military Tuition Assistance, along with steps to apply.
Tuition assistance is for courses that are part of an approved degree program eligible for Title IV Funds (tuition only, capped at the DoD rate of $250/credit hour). You are responsible for payment of any portion of tuition not included in your benefits and also for fees/other costs by payment deadlines.
Benefits are paid directly to the University by your specific branch and are applied prior to federal grants. You are required to make satisfactory academic progress by maintaining an overall 2.0 GPA on attempted hours.
Your specific branch of service can provide the date you may begin using your Tuition Assistance (TA) request. Tuition Assistance Requests (TARs) received less than seven (7) business days prior to the start of classes will not be accepted.
Active duty service members may also apply for a military tuition discount. Click here for more information and to apply.
Your Education Services Officer (ESO) can provide information and guidance on the process for requesting TA.
To Apply for TA
- Contact your Education Services Officer (ESO) prior to enrolling at Athens State University.
- Follow your specific service branch instructions on requesting TA through the appropriate branch portal.
- Email your approved TA Request document to kelly.leigeber@athens.edu.
