Dr. Vanessa Miller, Dr. Shannon Pittman, Shellie Christopher, and Lael Anderson have been selected as presenters during the 58th annual conference to be held by the National Collegiate Honors Council at the Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk in Chicago, Illinois on November 8-12, 2023.
The conference highlights student and faculty research presentations from across the nation while providing training and development for honors program administrators and staff. The conference theme, “Revolutionary Honors: Liberty, Equality, Humanity,” examines the ways in which honors colleges and programs can improve tomorrow’s world by actions today, grouped into the themes of liberty, equality, and humanity first heard in the French Revolution and codified by the Third Republic.
NCHC23’s Opening Keynote speakers are Reggie Harris and Greg Greenway, a musical and storytelling duo presenting “Deeper Than the Skin” – a performance of not only of overcoming, but providing a living, breathing example of celebration, creative resistance, and joy. Harris and Greenway will also offer an interactive workshop, “Turning Stories Into Light” designed to uncover the hidden aspects of personal narrative storytelling. NCHC23 attendees will also hear from Plenary Speaker Dr. Henrik Syse, a Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies at Oslo Nye University College who served a six-year term on the Norwegian Nobel Committee which awards the prestigious annual Nobel Peace Prize.
Dr. Vanessa Miller, Dr. Shannon Pittman, Shellie Christopher, and Lael Anderson have been selected to present their session entitled, ”Perspectives from an upper-division university: Developing an honors program for nontraditional transfer students” on November 9, 2023.
The national submission process for the NCHC annual conference is highly selective, with hundreds of students and faculty submitting proposals each year. NCHC conference presentations provide each individual with a unique opportunity to showcase the work being done in honors across the globe. These sessions grow the national honors conversation, providing other honors colleagues a chance to discuss the topic, exploring collaborations, research, and innovation.
While in Chicago, Dr. Vanessa Miller, Dr. Shannon Pittman, Shellie Christopher, and Lael Anderson will have the opportunity to network with other honors students and faculty from across the country, celebrate the unique community created by honors education, and explore the city through NCHC’s signature experiential learning projects.
