Of Cherokee heritage, Jerry Ellis was the first person in the modern world to walk the 900 mile route of the Trail of Tears. His book about that journey, WALKING THE TRAIL, ONE MAN'S JOURNEY ALONG THE CHEROKEE TRAIL OF TEARS, was first published by Delacorte Press and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. Still in print, it has sold over 200,000 copies. He has lectured about that journey in Asia, Europe, Africa and throughout the US. He currently divides his time between living in Rome, Italy and Fort Payne, Alabama.
