Athens State to Host Concert for Brass and Organ in McCandless Hall

September 2, 2014

The Livingston Concert Lecture Series at Athens State University will host the Stones River Chamber Players from Middle Tennessee State University for a concert on Sunday, September 14 at 7:00 p.m. in McCandless Hall. The concert will feature works for brass and organ and will be the inaugural performance for the University’s recently renovated Tracker Organ.

“This will be the second time the Stones River Chamber Group has performed on the McCandless stage,” states Athens State President Bob Glenn. “We are proud of the recent renovations to McCandless Hall and to the organ and we felt a concert such as this would be a great way to showcase our efforts.”

The Stones River Chamber Players perform virtuoso music that is visceral, evocative, and exciting. Their concert programs are accessible for both the discerning classical concert aficionado, and for young people new to classical concerts. Concert programs are unique and often offer a different combination of players for each work. The ensemble consists primarily of music faculty from Middle Tennessee State University - virtuoso performers from some of the finest music schools in America.

The group will include Michael Arndt and Jamey Simmons on trumpet, Angela DeBoer on horn, David Loucky on trombone, Ben Miles on tuba, and Angela Tipps on organ. The concert will feature works by Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven and other composers.

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information call 256-233-8296.
