ATHENS, Ala. – Athens State University Professor of Art Pamela Keller was selected as one of the 25 artists representing studio art faculty at Alabama’s colleges and universities to exhibit in the 2014 Art of the State at the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art. Jurors for the exhibition were Jere Allen, Emeritus Professor of Art-Ceramics , University of Mississippi and Ron Dale, Emeritus Professor of Art-Ceramics, University of Mississippi.

Keller has been a member of the Athens State Art department since 1981. She also won an award of merit for her photograph Washer on the Porch. Keller has two photographs on exhibition.

“These photographs are 30”x30” Hipstaprints taken last summer with my iPhone 5, IOS 7 using the Hipstamatic ap. This ap has various digital films and lenses that can represent analog images, “ said Keller of her work. “The images are composed in the viewfinder and work on the images usually
completed post-production can be done in the viewfinder as well, as the photo is taken. The results with my particular lens and film create super- saturated colors, high contrast, and are great for high light, outdoor shooting, where I find most of my inspiration.”

Keller prints through the iPhone ap on Fuji paper and builds her frames using recycled wood. She adds, “I like the contract of textured, strongly lit subject against the grizzled border of the prints, then the contrast of the shiny paper of the print against the ‘shabby chic’ rough wooden frames.”

The exhibition, Art of the State is on view now through March 7, 2014 at the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art in Tuscumbia, Alabama.
