Pamela Keller, Professor of Art and departmental chair at Athens State University has worked at this institution since 1981.

She received a Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) from Indiana University, John Herron School of Art in May of 1979. She went on to receive a Master of Fine Art (MFA) degree from University of Wisconsin in August of 1981. Her major was in Painting and Drawing and minors Photograpy, Art History, and English.

Pamela has been in numerous exhibitions including Tennessee Bicentennial Exhibition; Arts Alive Exhibition. Kennedy-Douglas Center. Florence, AL; Central South Art Exhibition. Nashville, TN; and Tennessee All-State Exhibition. Nashville, TN in which she received 1st place.

Her works can be found in the corporate collections of Eastman Kodak Pharmaceutical Corporation. Malvern, PA; Third National Bank. Nashville, TN; Hunter Museum of Art. Chattanooga, TN; Helen Keller Memorial Hospital, Tuscumbia, AL; and Family Mental Health Institute. NY, NY.

Pamela Keller's most recent project, in conjunction with artist Gail Bergeron is a life sized-sculpture of a Cherokee family walking on the Trail of Tears for the city of Pulaski, TN. Keller’s most recent award for exhibition is from the 2008 Chancellor’s Exhibition in Birmingham, AL. In addition to a full teaching schedule, she is currently working on commissions for bronze portrait busts.

Gail Bergeron

Gail Bergeron, Associate Professor of Art, joined the Athens State faculty in 2000, after serving thirteen years in the art department at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, TN.

She earned a Bachelor of Art (BA) from Nicholls State University in 1980 and a Master of Fine Art (MFA) degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 1984.

She has taught and shown her work in Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama. She studied at Hebrew University on a Zimmerman Scholarship and was a participant in The Rotary International Exchange Program to India. In addition, she has received the Fulbright-Hayes Scholarship to Guatemala through the Alabama Council for International Programs

Her public sculpture can be seen at The Huntsville Madison County Senior Center’s Miss Baker Walk in the Park. She has recently completed a life sized- bronze sculpture of a Cherokee family walking on the Trail of Tears for the city of Pulaski, TN., with artist Pamela Keller.

She exhibits her work locally at The Carnegie Visual Arts Center, in Decatur, The Tennessee Valley Art Museum, in Tuscumbia, and The Lifelong Learning Center in Athens, AL.

Dr. Mary Beth Johns serves as Assistant Professor of Visual Art Education at Athens State University. Her primary teaching responsibilities are AR 310 and AR 455 (Fine Arts Connection for the Elementary Learner and Materials and Methods of Art K-12). Her research and writing interests are in the usefulness of Contemporary Art in the K-12 setting. Dr. Johns taught in the Tuscaloosa city public schools as a traveling PK – 5th grade art teacher. In addition to this experience, she has taught Art Foundations in the community college setting and served as Curator of Education at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art.
