QEP Banner

The Commission on Colleges defines QEP as “an integral component of the reaffirmation of the accreditation process and is derived from an institution’s ongoing comprehensive planning and evaluation processes. It reflects and affirms a commitment to enhancing overall institutional quality and effectiveness by focusing on an issue the institution considers important to improving student learning outcomes and/or student success”.   As a result of the QEP Topic Identification team and consultation with the University’s leadership, the institution’s current QEP focuses on increasing and strengthening experiential learning opportunities for all students.

At Athens State University, Experiential Learning is a process through which students develop knowledge, skills, and values by applying theory and academic content to real-world experiences within the classroom, community, or workplace. Experiential Learning encompasses internships, undergraduate research, expeditions, community service, and other creative and professional work experiences.

Examples of Experiential Learning

  • Internships
  • Participation in research projects with faculty members
  • Hands-on activities in the classrooms
  • Expeditions to professional spaces
  • Collaborations with community organizations and businesses
