ACT Test Strategies

Review English, math, science, and writing strategies for each test section. Get an in-depth look at the explanations for right and wrong answers on the test as well as how the writing portion is scored. Everything you need to know about ACT testing. Fee includes study guide.

Course runs Tuesdays and Thursdays for 2 weeks.

Discovering Violin with Kristi Coughlin

This course is designed for beginner violin players with less than three months of experience. It covers the basics of playing position, bow hand, proper handling of instrument, beginning tone production, consecutive fingering, and separate bowing.

This is a group lesson limited to 5 students.
Class meets Thursdays for two months. There is no class scheduled July 3rd.

Lewis Carroll’s “Wonderland”

Students will discover the classic literary work of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” and perform abbreviated versions of chapters such as Down the Rabbit Hole, The Caucus Race, Who Are You, and A Mad Tea Party. Please identify if your child is interested in a singing role or non-singing role when you register. A parent letter will go home on the first day indicating the student’s casting. A performance will be offered at the end of the week for all parents, friends, and family to attend.

Characters will include Alice, Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, The Caterpillar, The White Rabbit, The Door Mouse, The Dodo Bird, The March Hare, Chorus of Mome Raths, Chorus of Flowers, The Queen, and The Playing Cards

Outdoor Survival Skills - ages 8-12

Summertime is for sleeping outside and cooking over a fire. In this camp, you will learn the basics of building tents, Dutch oven cooking, outdoor safety, and survival skills. Students will come to the Center for Lifelong Learning on Thu to learn the basics. On Fri, parents will take the kids to Monte Sano State Park where you will put your new skills to work in an overnight experience. Camp is limited to 12.

Sand Laboratory for the Family

This is an opportunity to see the sands of the world and learn more about the scientific aspects of sands. There will be microscope observations, sand art projects, and demonstrations of sand and diatoms with the Phenom Scanning Electron Microscope.

Dancing builds poise and confidence. In this class, students will learn how to work with a partner, how to hold hands, and how to perform dance step basics for the hustle, swing, and rumba. Parents are encouraged to attend.

The Super Sitter course teaches you everything you need to know to be an exceptional babysitter. It includes: basic first aid, diaper care, child feeding/bottling, environment care, and how to negotiate your fee. There will also be a safety component, age appropriate activities, and what to do with your money when you make it.

Art Explorers: Amazing Artists

Basic Sewing and Knitting

Youth Orchestra Auditions

Auditions for a Youth Orchestra group will be held during the month of August. Performers must be able to play A, D, and G major scale and must perform one song using sight reading.

Rehearsals will be held on the second and fourth Saturday of each month beginning in September. Performances are scheduled in December and May.

Students must provide their own instruments but sheet music will be provided.
