Beginner/Advanced Beginner Dance Class

Whether you want to learn the Lindy, East Coast or West Coast style or just a little Jive, the Dance Class will get you movin’ and groovin’! If you need to slow it down a little, learn how to do the Foxtrot, Waltz or Cha-Cha.

Visit two monasteries in Meteora and learn about the devote lifestyle of the monks. Explore ancient Corinth on a guided tour, featuring Agora and the Bema, where Paul was brought before the tribunal. Join local experts exploring the monument of ancient Athens, including the Acropolis.

Includes Athens, 3-night cruise of Mykonos, Ephesus, Santorini, Thessaloniki, Meteora, Delphi, Acropolis.

Rates are per person, double occupancy and include land, round-trip air, tax and fuel charges.

Athens State Book Club

The Athens State Library sponsors a book discussion group that meet once a month during the fall and spring semesters. Anyone is welcome! Reading selections are determined by members. There are no fees and there is no pressure to join or participate.

The meeting is held at the Center for Lifelong Learning on the scheduled day at 7:00 pm.

Using an Airbrush to Decorate Cakes

Airbrush cake decorating is fun. Tammy Wilkinson will show you how to use an airbrush to apply color schemes on cakes or to prepare the background of cakes with colors. Class is open to ages 11 and up. Students will take home their own creations. Supplies included in the price.

Blacksmith Project
Apr 18, 2015
This project will provide you with the skills and tools you will need for more advanced projects. In this class, Travis Fleming and Al Stephens will guide you in the steps to make grilling tongs or a untensil rack. All tools and equipment are provided. It is best if students have taken Basic Blacksmithing but not required.

Blacksmith activities can be inherently dangerous due to hot metal, sparks, sharp objects, welding and grinding operations, as well as other activities. It is recommended that students use safety glasses, wear cotton long sleeve shirts, long pants, and leather high top boots. Students will need to bring leather gloves to class.

Annual Bloomin Festival

The Bloomin' Festival is a two day juried arts festival attracting thousands of visitors to the beautiful campus of St. Bernard Abbey and Prep School. 

This trip includes a visit to the world famous Ave Maria Grotto. The picturesque landscape of stone cut buildings on the grounds of Alabama's only Abbey provides a backdrop for the out-of-doors show.  More than 140 booths are filled with artists demonstrating and exhibiting their work. 

We will depart the Center for Lifelong Learning at 9:00am for the event. Fee includes transportation, entry tickets to festival and grotto. Lunch is on your own.

Intermediate Blacksmithing

Now that you know the basics, it is time to put the tapering, bending, twisting, spreading, rolling, hole-punching, and riveting to work on a more creative project. This class will focus on more advanced skills than the basic courses. Pre-requisite: Basic Blacksmith is required prior to taking this course.
